In our teenage years, my friend Sami and I would shoot basketballs in my driveway to decide what to do next. Even after we would “decide” (by making a shot) we would always second guess our decision. Sometimes we stood in the driveway for hours.
Those were the days before we had the whole world at our fingertips. Even today, with easy access to all kinds of inspiration and information, the technology in our pocket isn’t helping.
For some people, the little screen sucks you in and the hours unknowingly fly by. For other people, even once inspiration strikes, they…
I was sitting in my office chair, staring at the ceiling, and trying to figure out what the hell I was going to write about on the topic of gratitude (our theme for this week). Life has been challenging lately — physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually — and I’m not sure I’m ready to grapple with gratitude.
However, I know in my heart that I’m a lucky guy and I have so many things to be grateful for. Even though life is sometimes hard, there are still so many beautiful things that make it worth living.
At Reel You, we believe life is about finding joy in our journey. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that our company values can be found in JOY.
I want to share with you what we hold dear and why these values are important to us. JOY is central to how we work, live, and treat each other. These principles act as a compass when we’re in unknown territory.
Assess the situation, then dive in with focus. Take the initiative with a can-do attitude. Be resourceful, independent, and persevere through every challenge to get things done.
Approach the world…
When I was younger, I was pretty quiet. I was never interested in being the center of attention… actually… I actively avoided being the center of attention. I was, and still am, much more comfortable as an observer.
The first time I recall putting myself out there was after my best friend convinced me we should run together for leadership positions of the high school student body. I begrudgingly agreed to go for it.
A few days later he dropped out of the race, but I continued my run for Treasurer and ultimately won.
I remember during the campaign challenging…
In April 2016, I flew from San Francisco to Amsterdam to begin a two-year work assignment. While living in Europe, I traveled to 30+ countries, made lifelong friends, and dove into cultural experiences that were new and interesting. I learned a new language! More importantly, I learned about myself and the world.
These experiences and moments of growth were worth documenting. In fact, I always tried capturing my life somehow but never found a great way. Nothing sufficiently reflected my experiences how I really lived them; the story was somehow always incomplete. No tool made it easy to collect the…
The Paradox of Everything Being Simultaneously Meaningful and Meaningless
The furthest visible regions of the Universe are estimated to be around 46 billion light years away and are expanding at an unimaginably fast rate. Here on our meager Earth, an estimated 117 billion humans have ever lived and many billions more will be born in the future. The humans alive right now are producing more than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every day, making each of us relatively less remarkable with every photo, message, and search.
Feeling insignificant yet?
Any one of us hardly registers as a blip on the…
As I sat at my desk fiddling with designs for an upcoming feature, it dawned on me just how much Reel You has changed as time has progressed. Yet I wondered: does our brand still reflect who we have grown to be and what we aim to become?
We believe that joy is in the journey. It’s not about getting to a destination but rather appreciating every step of the way. We envision a future in which everyone can appreciate their own path and want to help you live more presently and purposely along the way.

My mom has been through the gauntlet battling a rare form of cancer. She’s starting a new treatment now and we’re hopeful a big break is right around the corner.
Cancer and COVID have interrupted our lives in a major way. When our world gets turned upside down, we find comfort in our family, friends and community…
“Who exactly will see my moments? I thought everyone would see them.”
Social networks have melted our brains into thinking that sharing with everyone is the only way to share. I get asked every day about how sharing works in Reel You, including on a recent podcast appearance with Dez & Marco.
Answering the same question might seem exhausting, but for me it’s energizing. The answer is not just what differentiates Reel You from other platforms, but it’s also the source of our most positive and inspiring feedback from “Reel Yousers.”
The answer is selective sharing.
The way we built…
